Ackeem Blake edged in men’s 100m in Miramar
Jamaica’s World Indoor Championships bronze medalist Ackeem Blake was just beaten on the line in the men’s 100m at the Miramar Invitational in Florida on Saturday.
Blake, in his outdoor season opener, was edged by American Courtney Lindsay as both men were given the same time of 10.28 seconds (-2.4m/s). The Jamaican had earlier run 10.25 seconds (-1.3m/s) to lead the qualifiers and just failed to catch the fast starting American.
Andre Ewers was third in 10.43 seconds while national champion Rohan Watson and Yohan Blake, who appeared to have false started in the first round but allowed to stay in the race, were both given times of 10.52 seconds.
Natasha Morrison, who won the women’s B final in a season’s best 11.43 seconds (-1.2m/s), was the best placed Jamaican in the women’s 100m, just ahead of Tina Clayton’s 11.50 seconds. Yanique Dayle placed sixth with 11.96 seconds.
National Under-20 record holder Alana Reid was seventh in the A final in 11.62 seconds (-0.9m/s) while Sashalee Forbes pulled up and did not finish the race.
American Mellisa Jefferson won with 11.19 seconds, ahead of Destiny Smith-Barnett (11.28 seconds) and English Gardner (11.33 seconds).
Chanice Porter was second in the women’s long jump with 6.36m (-2.0 m/s) with national champion Tissanna Hickling fourth with 6.27n (0.0m/s).
Marvin Williams was fifth in the men’s 400m hurdles in 50.83 seconds and Janieve Russell was also fifth in the women’s 400m in 50.73 seconds.
