Shericka Jackson pulls out of Miramar 200m
Despite the withdrawal of two-time World Championships 200m gold medallist from Saturday’s Miramar Invitational to be held at the Ansin Sports Complex in Florida, there will be a massive Jamaican presence with 30 athletes from the island down to take part.
Jackson was listed to contest the women’s 200m but her name was removed from the list, joining American 100m World Championships gold medallist Sha’Carri Richardson who withdrew from the women’s 100m.
Nataliah Whyte is the only Jamaican left in the women’s 200m.
Meanwhile, a lot of attention will be on the short sprints where last season’s fastest Jamaican man Kishane Thompson and girls Champs Class 1 record holder Alana Reid are expected to make their season debuts.
Thompson, who ran 9.91 seconds in the first round at last year’s national championships before withdrawing, and ran 9.85 seconds in China in September, is down to compete in the 100m. He is to go up against training partner and national champion Rohan Watson, World Indoor 60m bronze medallist Ackeem Blake, former World Champion Yohan Blake, Michael Campbell and Andre Ewers.
Reid will join World Championships semi-finalists Shashalee Forbes, the Clayton twins, Tia and Tina, Yanique Dayle, Natasha Morrison, Shockoria Wallace and Kashieka Cameron.
World Championships finalist Ackera Nugent will contest the 100m hurdles along with Amoi Brown and Demisha Roswell while Orlando Bennett and Tyler Mason will line up in the 110m hurdles.
World Indoor 400m bronze medallist Rusheen McDonald and World Championships relay medallist Ryiem Forde are down to run the men’s 200m with Janieve Russell listed for the women’s 400m.
Former World Under-17 champion Marvin Williams is down for the men’s 400m hurdles and Chrisann Gordon-Powell will run the women’s 600m.
In the field events, Daniel Thomas-Dodd and Lloydricia Cameron are taking part in the women’s shot put, national champion Tissanna Hickling and Chanice Porter will contest the women’s long jump, while former world champion Tajay Gayle will contest the men’s long jump.
