March Mania at karting
The 2024 karting season continued strong with Jamaica Karting Association hosting its second race meet on Sunday, March 24, at Palisadoes International Raceway, Kingston.
The 2023 Abe Ziadie Trophy holder, Brandon Shor, spent the entire day trying to keep rival David Brown at bay. Both drivers won a race each in their Rotax Minimax class, but it was Anthony Hogarth who claimed the reverse grid final.
Still, Shor finished ahead of Brown, giving him the points lead. Shor went home atop the Rotax Minimax leaderboard with 33.5 points. Brown was three points behind, while Hogarth, due his win, was third with 28.5 points.
The rest of the classes were just as competitive. Lucas Lee led Adrian Choi and Sebastian Steele in Comer 50. Lee had 41.5 points, Choi had 29.5, and Steele completing the top three with 25.5.
Dylan Smith was the highest points scorer in Micromax having 44.5 points to the 35.5 points and 28.5 points of Peter Wilson and Benjamin Green, respectively.
In Rotax Junior it was Luke Spencer in dominant form, having a hat-trick of race victories to score 43.5 points, a massive haul over the 26.5 points of Matthew Warmington. Justin Donaldson collected 24.5 points to finish third in the class.
Edward Upstone and Zander Williams raced hard all day, but it was Upstone who left the track as the Rotax Senior points leader scoring 38.5 points. Williams was close behind with 35.5 points ahead of third-placed Zachary Lee.
It was a similar situation in Super Rotax between Mark Moodie and Charles Fong-Yee. While Moodie dominated the top step of the podium to the tune of 41.5 points when all was said and done, Fong-Yee finished in second chasing his rival all the way — 30.5 points was his haul for the event. Only Duncan Stanley managed to interject between the two, taking second in the Pre-Final race and putting him third in the points with a 24.5 total.
