UPDATE: Eyewitnesses describe horror of fatal Portland car crash
PORTLAND, Jamaica – Eyewitnesses to the gruesome car crash in Portland, which claimed the lives of a father and his six-year-old son, said it is not a sight they wish to behold ever again.
A mother-daughter duo, whose house the car transporting the now deceased crashed into, told Observer Online that the accident left them feeling scared.
“I am feeling weak as it is a frightening experience for me to be actually in your bed and something like this is happening in your yard. It is not a good feeling. My joints are weak. It is tough and not a sight I want to experience again,” the woman, who identified herself as Marie stated.
Marie, who said she was inside her room conducting her nightly prayers, said she was startled by vehicles coming down into her yard at “high speed.” She said the impact prompted her to run outside where she came upon a destroyed motorcar with three people, including two children trapped inside.
“I was inside doing my prayers when I heard the vehicles coming with a speed and I heard a commotion and vehicles coming down in the yard. I jumped up and ran and called my mother as I think it was coming inside the house as I heard it hit on the house. I shout out to my mother to see if she was okay,” she recounted.
Her mother, Peanut, told Observer Online that the rescue party managed to free one of the crash victims, a little girl who was later identified as the sister of the six-year-old boy.
Marie shared that her nephew rushed the little girl to the hospital.
“He (her nephew) came back and they were trying to take out the other two persons as three persons were in the car. They realised that they were not going to make it so they called the police and fire truck. The fire truck came and got out the other two persons – father and son,” Marie said.
The young boy, Jayden Woolery and his 53-year-old father David Woolery, died as a result of injuries they sustained in a two-vehicle crash along the Fairy Hill main road in Portland on Easter Monday.
Police reports are that about 10:18 pm, Woolery was driving a grey Suzuki Swift with Jayden and another little girl as passengers when the driver of a red Toyota Corolla attempted to overtake the Swift, resulting in a collision.
The driver of the red Corolla has been warned for prosecution.
