10 honoured with Musgrave Medals
The Institute of Jamaica hosted its annual Musgrave Medals Award Ceremony on Wednesday, March 27 to honour the achievements of stalwarts in literature, the arts, and science.
Ten individuals were awarded at the event at Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts on the Mona campus of The University of the West Indies.
For literature, Professor Emerita Carolyn Cooper (gold), Barbara Blake Hannah (silver), Dr Sharma Taylor (bronze); the arts, Vivian Crawford (gold), L’Antoinette Stines (silver), Carlton “Santa” Davis (bronze), George “Fully” Fullwood (bronze); and science Professor Marcia Roye (gold), Dr Conrad Douglas (silver) and Merline Bardowell (bronze).
The oldest in the western hemisphere, the Musgrave medal programme was first awarded in 1897 in honour of Sir Anthony Musgrave, governor or Jamaica from 1877 to 1883, who founded the Institute of Jamaica in 1879.
