Sav Jerk Festival set to sizzle on Easter Monday
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – The Godfrey Stewart High School playground in Westmoreland will come alive Easter Monday when Keva Entertainment in association with Juicezzz Fashionzz all-inclusive salon and boutique present their second staging of Sav Jerk Festival Family FunDay.
The day and night event will see the likes of dancehall star Skeng, Bad Gyal Jade, Kaka Highflames, Natural Silk, Molo Don, Apache Kid and Sarge, Zalis, Bones and many more hit the stage.
Patrons can also whet their palettes with ‘everything jerk’ as vendors will be wearing their creative hats as they chef up jerked jackfruit, jerked pork, jerked sausage amongst other delectable offerings.
Christopher Baker, public relations officer for the event, said patrons should anticipate something “special”.
“We’re gonna make it special. We want to shout out to all the vendors who are going to be there. We’re going to have a wide variety of jerk projects and food,” Baker, popularly known as ‘Dr Ras’, who will also be the MC at the event, told Observer Online.
“We are expecting a cool and calm event. Just come out and enjoy yourself. The ticket cost is $1,000 presold, $1,500 at the gate with free rides all day. High schoolers can secure their spot with $1,500 presold, $2,000 at the gate. Meanwhile, adults will pay $3,000 presold and $4,000 at the gate for a fun packed day and night extravaganza,” Baker said, adding “Tickets will be available at Heritage Pharmacy, Texaco Gas station, Fontana Pharmacy, Royal Pharmacy, all- inclusive boutiques all located in Savanna-la-Mar or contact us on Instagram at SavJerkFestival.”
Promoter Elmorth Ellis said upon evaluating the event’s success last year, he opted to allow the children to access the rides free this year as a result of the financial constraint on families in the current tough economic climate.
“We know it’s a challenging time. So mi jus ban mi belly and seh, this year we’re gonna let the kids ride free and fulljoy themselves,” Ellis said cheerfully.
The Harmony Town, Savanna-la-Mar native spoke of learning about event promotion from his mother, who he said often hosted social gatherings when he was a child.
Ellis said based on the feedback he has been getting the event will be a success.
“It looks like it’s gonna be bigger and better, dat a dat. I am just imploring everyone to come out and have a grand time in this Easter break. The kids are definitely looking forward to the event, the high schoolers have been calling to purchase their tickets and it is gonna be a banga,” the promoter said.
When asked where he sees Sav Jerk Festival and Funday in the next five years, he said: “ The sky’s the limit and I see this brand becoming international.”
Ellis added that part proceeds from the event will go towards a major project at the Godfrey Stewart High School. According to the promoter, he has been giving back to the institution over the years as a part of his charity initiative.
