Brianna Lyston clocks wind-aided 10.87 in 100m at Battle on the Bayou
Jamaica’s Brianna Lyston picked up where she left off as she ran a wind-aided 10.87 seconds (2.6m/s) in the women’s 100m at the Battle on the Bayou at Louisiana State University (LSU) on Saturday.
The LSU sophomore, who won the NCAA Indoor 60m title with a personal best and college leading 7.03 seconds earlier this month, was second overall behind Nigeria’s Favour Ofili who clocked 10.85 seconds (2.6m/s).
With the performance, the 19 year-old Lyston sent a message she will be hard to beat this season. She is also expected to challenge for a place on the Jamaican team to the Olympics.
In the meantime, Luke Brown of the University of Kentucky won the men’s triple jump with a college leading 16.40m.
Also on Saturday, Tyrese Reid of Mississippi State University ran a big personal best 1:45.76 for second place in the men’s 800m, beating his previous best of 1:46.09 set in Nashville, Tennessee last year, and moving up two places to sixth-best all time by a Jamaican man.
At the Florida Relays, Rhianna Phipps of the University of Nebraska won the women’s triple jump with a college leading 13.36m (1.1m/s) while her teammate Lotavia Brown was seventh with 12.83m (0.0m/s).
Kai Chang threw 60.83m for second in the men’s discus throw, his first outdoor competition for the University of Florida, second best ever at the institution. He was also fourth in the shot put with 18.64m.
