Three children suspected of drowning in pond in Guyana
GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Rescue teams have recovered the bodies of three children, including two sisters, who reportedly drowned on Tuesday night, after reportedly going to the Razor Grass pond in the small Massara Village, North Rupununi, in Guyana to swim.
The police said that six-year-old Nia Jeffreys, her five-year-old sister, Michele and their nine-year-old cousin, Alicia Dorrick, left their parents’ home and had gone to the pond in the village to swim.
Commander of the Regional Police Division, Senior Superintendent Raphael Rose, confirmed the incident.
“Upon discovering their absence, their parents initiated a search, eventually leading them to the Razor Grass pond, where the bodies of the three girls were found floating in the water,” police said in a statement.
The bodies of the three children have since been taken to the Lethem Regional Hospital, where a post- mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
