A superb championships
Dear Editor,
I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations to the organisers of the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships which was held over five days at the National Stadium.
I must also commend the Kingston College team on their wonderful performance as well as Edwin Allen High School for successfully reclaiming their title.
The youngster from Jamaica College, Michael-Andre Edwards, who broke the triple jump record, previously set by Calabar High School’s Luke Brown, must also be commended.
I must also congratulate all schools for their grit in competing at such a high standard. For instance, Excelsior High School boys have made tremendous strides to place fourth, which, in my opinion, was quite outstanding. The coach along with the school fraternity must be proud of such a marvellous achievement.
I can just imagine how exciting the events will be next year when schools like Foga Road High and Muschett High make credible challenges.
I must also commend GraceKennedy for its commitment to the championships, as they had threatened to pull the sponsorship last year due to the indiscipline of some athletes. Fortunately, there was no repeat at this year’s championships, which was well attended. And I am happy that Don Wehby, CEO of GraceKennedy, has made it clear that he intends to increase the sponsorship next year.
