WATCH: Kingston College eye 36th title for school’s 100th anniversary
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Even as the confetti continues to rain down on their latest triumph, Kingston College (KC) are already eyeing a record-extending 36th boys’ athletics championship title next year when the school mark their 100th anniversary.
Thrower Antwon Walkins, one of the captains of the KC track and field team, made the intention clear Monday as he addressed the school community during morning devotion at KC’s North Street compound to celebrate their 35th hold on the Mortimer Geddes Trophy.
“Next year is the school’s 100th anniversary, it will be our 36th championship win,” Walkins said to applauds.
“But to get to 36 we need your help… old boys, past students, and companies as great and as big as GraceKennedy,” he added while also inviting students interested in joining the team for tryouts over the next several weeks.
KC secured their 35th title, four in the last five years, with a whopping 335 points.
Jamaica College looked to challenge the North Street boys but only amassed 278 points after five days of competition.
Calabar High (194); Excelsior High (122); St Jago High (111.5); Wolmer’s Boys (66); St Elizabeth Technical (59) and St George’s College (53); Munro College (45) and Edwin Allen High (29) round out the top 10 boys’ school.
In the girls’ section, Edwin Allen amassed 335.5 points, unseating last year’s champion Hydel High for their 10th title.
