Fountain installation progresses for Usain Bolt statue in Falmouth’s Water Square
The Trelawny Municipal Corporation (TMC) has now sourced critical parts for the fountain at the site where the base on which the statue of the iconic Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt is to be mounted in the Water Square in Falmouth, Trelawny.
During the recent monthly meeting of the TMC, the superintendent of roads and works at the municipal corporation, Lavern Morris, revealed that the Waterboy system for the fountain, which was purchased in Spain, was on its way to the United States from where it will be shipped to Jamaica.
“I am pleased to inform you that the Waterboy system for the fountain, in order for it to be operational and finalised, has been purchased. It was sourced from a company in Spain and it is now en route to Miami, Florida where it will be shipped to Jamaica in another four weeks,” Morris said.
“So hopefully near the end of April you can see the installation and after that, unveiling,” she added.
The site of the legendary sprinter’s statue is expected to be an attraction for tourists and locals in the town of Falmouth.
The construction of the base on which the statue will be mounted at the site of the fountain in the historic Water Square in Falmouth, Trelawny, got underway last year by members of the Jamaica Defence Force.
Mayor of Falmouth and chairman of the TMC, Councillor C Junior Gager, has in the past, indicated that the statue will be mounted soon after construction is completed.
Bolt, a native of Sherwood Content in the parish, holds world records in the 100 metres and 200 metres as well as the 4x100m relay.
He has eight Olympic gold medals and 11 World Championships gold medals.
