‘I’m the best baby father for ideas’ says PM Holness
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Prime Minister Andrew Holness has declared himself to be the “best baby father for ideas.”
Holness gave himself the title on Thursday as he made his contribution to the 2024/25 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives.
He slammed the People’s National Party (PNP), accusing the parliamentary opposition of “having bad mind” because it could only dream of implementing ideas that his Jamaica Labour Party Government had brought to fruition since it returned to power in 2016.
Holness appeared hesitant to use the term to describe himself, perhaps cognisant of the negative connotations often associated with the term baby father.
“I always say members that the brain is not all in one head, you can have great ideas and if you have great ideas, I am a person that respects ideas. What I do, I give credit. But if you have a good idea, don’t let it go to waste, give it to me, let me implement it,” he said to applause from government members.
The prime minister then said, “I thought about using an analogy, let me try it and see if it works. I’m the best baby father for ideas”. The remark was received with a mix of muted laughter and applause.
He told the House that “the Andrew Holness-led Administration will convert those dreams and ideas into reality,” before going on to outline a litany of plans and projects that the government plans to implement over the coming years, in a budget presentation lasting over four-and-a-half-hours.
