Greetings, young athletes who will be participating at this year’s staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships.
Track and field is not only physically demanding but also mentally challenging, but it will undoubtedly teach you valuable lessons that extend far beyond the track. My few words of advice to help you navigate your journey would be:
1. Embrace the process: Success in track and field is not an overnight achievement. It requires consistent hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Embrace the training, the ups and downs, and the setbacks along the way. Remember that progress is a journey, and each day is an opportunity to improve.
2. Take care of yourself: Track and field demands physical fitness and mental resilience. Prioritise your health and well-being by fuelling your body with nutritious food, staying hydrated, getting enough rest, and maintaining a balanced lifestyle. Listen to your body, and don’t hesitate to seek guidance from professionals when needed.
3. Enjoy the journey: Ultimately, track and field is about passion and enjoyment. Seize every opportunity to embrace the joy of running, jumping, or throwing. Celebrate every milestone, every personal best, and every moment of growth. Remember, your love for the sport will carry you through the tough times and make your achievements even sweeter.
Good luck, and may your efforts on the track lead to great success!
