Time come to reflect
Dear Editor,
The quashing by the UK-based Privy Council in regard to Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer and his co-accused murder convictions comes at an important juncture in Jamaica’s history of abuse of justice. Indeed, it is a test for the Jamaican justice system.
The way the trial was handled in the local court mirrors the approach of how our Government hurriedly places Bills before the House of Representatives and uses its majority to rubber-stamp them as laws while ignoring the Opposition or providing opportunities of engagement via the parish municipalities through elected councillors to get the opinion of the people in the divisions.
It is also linked to how we mistreat vulnerable people, especially prisoners, and particularly those with mental challenges.
When a nation loses its sense of justice it devolves into barbaric behaviour because its humanity has diminished. Time come; wake up for justice!
