ICHS Alumnae Association to induct four outstanding women during Hall of Fame gala
THE Immaculate Conception High School (ICHS) Alumnae Association will induct four of its outstanding alumnae during its fifth Hall of Fame fund-raising gala on March 16.
This year, the prestigious inductees are Margaret Campbell in the category of education; Donette Chin-Loy Chang in the category of community leadership & philanthropy; Michelle Gyles-McDonnough in the category of international relations & public service; and Cathrine Sani in the area of social services & volunteerism.
Campbell is the consummate educator, with over two decades of experience. She’s a transformational leader, under whose leadership the academic performance of St George’s College has been propelled to being rated as “exceptionally high” by the National Educational Inspectorate.
Chin-Loy Chang is a well-respected communications strategist, community leader and philanthropist, who has dedicated service to several noteworthy causes in Jamaica and Canada.
Gyles-McDonnough boasts an almost 30-year career in international relations. In her capacity as director, sustainable development unit, executive office of the secretary general at the United Nations, New York, she has played a key role in assisting the secretary general and his leadership team to support countries to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by the internationally agreed deadline of 2030.
Sani is an accomplished businesswoman, who has demonstrated her commitment to serving others, most notably her alma mater, where she spearheaded the rebuilding of the food and nutrition labs and nursing station at the school, garnering the support of all chapters of the ICHSAA and other experts and professionals in the field.
The ICHS Hall of Fame holds immense significance, as it recognises the remarkable accomplishments of former students and staff who have made significant contributions to various fields and their communities.
Additionally, the inaugural president’s award will be presented to Steven Woodham, OD, artist-in-resident at ICHS, in recognition of his outstanding service, for the past 30 years in inspiring the musical prowess and leading the charge as conductor of the Immaculate Conception High School Symphony Orchestra. The president’s award seeks to recognise an extraordinary individual who has made a stellar contribution to the development of the institution.
The event serves a dual purpose, of honouring outstanding alumnae, and raising funds for scholarships for students to pursue tertiary education and for school development programmes. This year’s gala, which is themed ‘Learn, Lead, Lift’, aims to raise $5 million towards this worthy cause.
“We invite individuals and organisations to join this impactful initiative by purchasing tables or pledging their support toward this event,” said Kim Mair, president of the ICHS Alumnae Association. “Over the years we have been able to raise over $12 million towards scholarships and school development initiatives. We want to this year also recognise several organisations, such as National Baking Company (gold); Wisynco, BPM Financial, Sagicor Group Ja, Grace Kennedy Group, and Island Grill (silver); along with several bronze-level sponsors, that have come on board to partner with us to ensure that we can continue to contribute to the development of ICHS and future generations of phenomenal women.”
