Granville to face off with Flanker United in Sandals Major League final
MONTEGO BAY, St James – Granville United upset two-time defending champions Reggae Youths 3-2 in their return leg semi-finals on Monday and booked a place in the St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League final against Flanker United.
After both first-leg semi-finals ended in 1-1 draws at Wespow Park, Granville United came from a goal down to win Monday’s return leg 3-2 for a 4-3 aggregate while Flanker United beat Lilliput Rovers 3-0 on penalties after they ended tied 2-2 on aggregate.
Both games were played at Jarrett Park.
Sachin Wilmot gave Reggae Youths the lead in the 12th minute but Granville United scored three goals to take a commanding lead before a late goal cut the deficit to one goal.
Kimali Powell, who started the season with Falmouth United in the Jamaica Football Federation Championships, scored his first goal of the season for Granville United in the 23rd minute to tie up the scores at 2-2 before Lujae Doeman gave them the lead when he scored in the 71st minute.
Ricardo Butt added a third goal for Granville United in the 80th minute before Sebastian Robinson pulled one back for Reggae Youths in the 90th minute.
Flanker United returned to the finals after they beat Lilliput Rovers on penalties after they played out a 2-2 aggregate draw after full and extra time.
Everado Chambers gave Flanker United the lead in the 18th minute but Nigel Dixon equalised in the 45th minute and none of the teams were able to break the deadlock.
Both teams ended the game with 10 players after Mosiah Clarke of Flanker United was sent off in the 70th minute after picking up a second yellow card and Jamari Johnson was sent off in time added in the second half after being shown a red card.
