What are your expectations for Holmwood at Champs 2024

Holmwood Technical has been one of the bridesmaids for quite a few seasons and will remain in this position once again at this year’s championships. The team has a good amount of talented young women who will be competitive individually and collectively, which will see them scoring impressive points over the five days.
Based on the performances this season and considering that several of the stronger senior athletes have departed, I have them finishing fourth. However, the winning mentality is strong throughout the school’s culture, which could see them getting things right and pushing for a finish in the top three.

A realistic finish for Holmwood Technical at the [Inter-secondary School Sports Association] (ISSA)/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships this year would be top three, as the 10-time champions continue their rebuild under Coach Dave Anderson. Getting over the 200 points mark might be out of their reach this year with the departure of a number of their top athletes last year. Despite this, the expectations are for the Holmwood team to start Champs on a high on Tuesday.

Holmwood Technical last achieved championship success in 2013, two years prior they would have won the last in a nine-year stretch of consecutive wins. However, those glory days appear to be firmly in the rear-view mirror. Any title hopes for this year may be deemed premature and possibly a few years away. Additionally, a fourth-place finish behind Edwin Allen, Hydel, and St Jago at Central Champs suggests that the rebuilding efforts may require additional fuel. While they would love to replicate their top-three finish from last year, that prospect may very well be a difficult one.
