Louis Richards, Oneil Scott combine for first win in 2024
Trainer Louis Richards and jockey Oneil Scott combined to win their first race for the 2024 racing season with five-year-old chestnut horse One Like It in the day’s third event on Saturday, March 9, 2024.
The race was a three-year-old and upwards Optional Claiming call with a spread of $550,000-$450,000, that also included six-year-olds and upward (non-winners of four) over 6 furlongs (1,200m).
One Like It took off and contested the early lead with Thegoodlife (Jordan Barrett), with Wilson (Robert Halledeen) and Traditional Boy (Shane Richardson) trailing.
One Like It battled Thegoodlife going into the half-mile (800m) turn, and then began to draw away nearing the distance, with Wilson (Robert Halledeen) joining the mix.
Wilson attempted a challenge, but One Like It won by 2 ½ lengths. Wilson came in second, while High Diplomacy (Andrew Wright) finished third. The winning time was clocked at 1:17.1 (23.1 x 48.4).
It was Richards’ first start for the year, while it was Scott’s second mount for the season.
