Andrew Swaby is the new Mayor of Kingston
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The People’s National Party’s (PNP) Andrew Swaby is the new mayor of Kingston.
Swaby, the councillor for the Vineyard Town division, was sworn in on Tuesday at the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) along with the 39 other elected councillors of the KSAMC.
The former mayor, the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Delroy Williams, councillor for the Seivwright Gardens division, will be Swaby’s deputy.
The swearing-in ceremony took place amid great fanfare as hundreds of supporters from both major parties gathered at the KSAMC’s Church Street headquarters to cheer for their representatives.
Each party won 20 seats of the KSAMC in the recently held local government elections. However, having won the popular vote in Kingston and St Andrew, the PNP won the right to appoint the mayor.
