Marley-rific tribute!
Stars deliver powerhouse sets at Jo Mersa Marley Birthday Celebration
Reggaeland, Nine Miles, St Ann, ignited musically on Saturday night for The Marley Family Presents Jo Mersa Marley Birthday Celebration.
Members of the Marley clan and their friends did not hold back in performance quality and emotion as they paid tribute to their relative in front of a throng of well-wishers.
Jo Mersa, the grandson of reggae icon Bob Marley and son of Stephen Marley, passed away in December 2022 in Florida. Mersa’s siblings, cousins and uncles honoured his memory in musical tributes during the event and they never disappointed.
The energy radiated throughout the audience in the venue from the moment Yohan Marley, Zuri Marley and Mystic Marley took the stage. The audience feasted on the sweet sounds of the music.
The line-up of performers kept the energy flowing throughout the night.
The audience showed appreciation when YG Marley — grandson of Bob Marley and son of Rohan Marley — took to the stage. But the vibe got even more intense when attendees witnessed history in the making. The artiste was joined onstage by his mother, award-winning rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer Lauryn Hill. The two then performed his viral hit Praise Jah in the Moonlight.
Following their scintillating performance, Julian Marley made his entrance.
Next onstage was Kymani Marley, who delivered a host of hits from his catalogue, among them a rendition of his father’s 1976 hit Crazy Baldhead.
The audience was gushing with excitement from the Marley magic.
Like an ambush, at once Stephen and Damian Marley appeared in front of the adoring audience in a spirited entrance. They both delivered well-known hits Medication, Traffic Jam, among others.
The performance was elevated to higher heights when the Gargamel, Buju Banton, joined the duo to perform Jah Army.
Buju Banton also delivered some fan favourites from his arsenal.
Sizzla Kalonji, Capleton, Spragga Benz, Lutan Fyah, among others also connected with the audience throughout the musical fiesta and paid homage to Jo Mersa.
It was a fusion of passion and music a great time was had by both performers and fans with the curtains coming down on the event at 3:30 am.
