Haiti’s PM Dr Ariel Henry not attending Caribbean Committee meeting
KINGSTON, Jamaica- The Jamaica Observer can now report that Haiti’s Prime Minister Dr Ariel Henry will not be attending the Caribbean Committee meeting now taking place in Kingston, Jamaica.
Sources said up to early Monday morning efforts were being made to get Henry on a flight from Puerto Rico – where he has been staying since being locked out of his country last week – but those efforts were abandoned as calls intensified for him to resign.
United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken has reportedly arrived in Jamaica to participate in the crisis talks with Caribbean Community leaders but he has not yet reached the hotel where the discussions are slated to take place this afternoon.
A meeting involving Caricom heads of government is currently taking place in Jamaica, to discuss the multiple crises being faced by Haiti, following a week of escalated violence by gangs in the country.
A release on Saturday from the Office of the Prime Minister confirmed the meeting, adding that it will be held under the current Chair of Conference President Irfaan Ali of Guyana.
