Former PNP candidate Errol Bascoe charged with buggery
ST MARY, Jamaica— Former People’s National Party (PNP) candidate for St Mary Western, Errol Bascoe, has been charged with buggery.
Acting Commanding Officer of the St Mary Police Division, Deputy Superintendent Kevin Francis confirmed the charge.
The charge is related to an alleged encounter Bascoe had with a 23-year-old man from Gayle, St Mary who had reportedly sought the assistance of the educator in a legal matter.
Bascoe, the principal of Tacky High School, remains in custody and is to appear in court early next week.
The educator is being represented by attorneys Valerie Robertson and Oswest Senior Smith.
On Saturday, Bascoe submitted a letter of resignation to the PNP, where he described the allegation made against him as “scurrilous and malicious”.

Bascoe further said that he was resigning “with great regret and a heavy heart” but decided to walk away given the potential impact of the issue on the party’s reputation.
Generation 2000 (G2K), the youth arm of the Jamaica Labour Party, also demanded Bascoe’s resignation from his position as principal of the Tacky High School.
G2K, in a release on Saturday, argued that the reason given by Bascoe for his resignation as the PNP candidate “raises concerns about his ability to continue to lead an educational institution, given his failure to address similar issues as principal.”
