Man charged in murder of 9-y-o in Clarendon
A man accused of killing a nine-year-old boy and injuring a woman during a gun attack at Church Street in May Pen, Clarendon in January, has been charged.
Charged with murder and wounding with intent is 25-year-old Joel Williams, from Windsor Avenue aka Ghetto, in May Pen.
Williams is booked for the killing of Shamar Walker, a student from Church Street, and the wounding of a female shopkeeper. The incident occurred on January 26, 2024
Reports were that around 7:45 pm, Shamar and the now-injured woman were among a group of people at a shop watching television when a man came in the yard.
Shortly after, the police said, the man pulled a firearm and opened gunfire in the crowd.
Shamar ran from the yard onto the street and was chased and shot in the left side of the chest. When the shooting subsided, the shopkeeper was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her body.
Residents rushed the child and the woman to the May Pen Hospital, where Shamar was pronounced dead on arrival. The woman was admitted in serious but stable condition.
Williams will appear at the May Pen Parish Court on March 28, 2024.
