UK-based artiste Nova Skyi, takes a ‘LEAP’ of faith with debut mixtape
KINGSTON, Jamaica — United Kingdom (UK)-based recording artiste Nova Skyi released her passion project ‘LEAP’ in February, marking a significant milestone for the emerging artiste.
LEAP, her six track debut mixtape, is said to transcends borders, blending Jamaican and British influences into a harmonious celebration of music, identity, and social consciousness.
“I wanted to do a slow burn in releasing the tracks, ‘Throne’ was the first track released on February 1. It features Therryi Jay, another UK artiste and it sets the tone for the mixtape. Then we did ‘I Miss You Black Man’ on February 12, another collab with Therryi Jay. Followed by ‘The Streets’ on February 20, this features Jamaican artiste Blakkman,” Nova Skyi said.
“This was produced at Dexta Daps studio with Brown Boss Muzik. The full mixtape will drop on March 14 with three exclusive tracks ‘Warn Dem’ featuring Jamaican artistes Vygilant and Captain Kirk, produced by Jamaican-born Jesman Harmer from Trillcity Global. The other two exclusive tracks ‘If You Were Mine’ and ‘The Weekend’ complete the mixtape,” Nova Skyi continued.
The artiste further stated that this project consists of songs with strong messaging.
“It’s the first time I’m able to talk on some issues that are important to me. ‘I Miss You Black Man’, is a love letter to black men and how much a black woman needs the black man in their lives,” Nova Skyi said, added that she also got a chance to work with other artiste and “that is always big for me.”
“Blakkman is a very talented artiste and we met up one evening, wrote and recorded it that night. The project is also special as it was created in Jamaica and the UK, and you get a little insight into the different shades of my personality and some of the things that are important to me, including my black people, fun, love, sexiness and human power. I’ve done listening parties and previews on my Nova Skyi socials and the feedback has been great. I can only hope that more people support it as it’s available on all streaming platforms,” Nova Skyi added.
