Shor’d up
After winning the Abe Ziadie Trophy for the second time in 2023, Brandon Shor is looking forward to again capture karting’s top prize.
“It feels great to have won the Abe Ziadie Trophy twice and back-to-back. I worked very hard to do so because the racing was very hard last year as I had some ups and down,” Shor told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.
Shor won in 2022 when he raced in the Rotax Micromax class. He had a dominant year up against Kai Beecher and David Brown, winning seven meets and gaining the most points for a karter.
In 2023 things got a bit tougher as he moved up into the Rotax Minimax class with Brown. The two battled hard all year; however, Shor had the upper hand at the end of the year with 290.5 points accumulated over the season to take both the class and the overall championship. Beecher, who remained in Rotax Micromax, still did pose a threat to Shor, taking second place overall with 271.5 points.
Further recognising his talent, the now 11-year-old Shor received a FIA Americas Award as Jamaica’s 2023 karting champion in Panama City, Panama, on February 3.
“Getting the Americas Award felt even greater. I didn’t even know I was going to Panama, or even get such an award until an hour before it was posted,” said Shor.
For 2024 he’s back up against Brown in Rotax Minimax. His plan is simple: To win.
Shor hopes to follow in the footsteps of his racing idols, Jamaican F4 driver Alex Powell and multiple Formula One Champion Lewis Hamilton, to make it to the top ladder of motorsports, F1.
