Really Like U
Stalk Ashley previews new EP with Skillibeng
Singer Stalk Ashley has been making a name for herself on the dancehall music scene over the last few years, releasing hits such as Time Waster, Bun Fi Bun, Wasteman, Narcissistic featuring Valiant, and Talibhan with Skeng.
The Mandeville-grown artiste is set to drop a 10-track EP titled Stalky the Bratt in May.
Among the producers who Stalk Ashley worked with on the project are Jaxx, Kingbnimn, Anju Blaxx, Mxssivh, Di Genius, Dunw3ll, and Universal.
The first single, Really Like U, a collaboration featuring RCA Records signee Skillibeng, and produced by Stalk Ashley Music LLC, was released on March 1 via Zojak World Wide.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer, Stalk Ashley explained how the collaboration came about.
“This song came to life from a DM [direct message] exchange [on
Instagram]. I’ve been eyeing a collaboration with Skillibeng for some time, but I wanted it to be the right song. This was, indeed, the right one,” said Stalk Ashley.
Really Like U has been trending on social media since its release. The official video has racked up more than 464,000 views up to Thursday, March 7 and stood at #12 on the YouTube Trending chart.
Stalk Ashley said she isn’t surprised at the response to the song.
“Surprisingly, no, I know this song was a great song even before Skillibeng decided to join me on the collaboration. There was no doubt in my mind about releasing
Really Like U. It’s undeniably good, and it’s so beautiful to see it being received that way,” she reasoned.
She continued: “The message for this song is pretty straightforward; I detail the things I’d like to do unapologetically with no concern for what people say. Creating this song, the process was immaculate. Skillibeng is a talented individual and it made working with him a breeze. My only hope is that this song finds exactly who it was intended for. That is, people who like to have fun without judgement.”
Like many singers, Stalk Ashley began her musical journey in the church.
“Music began in my humble abode in the countryside of Jamaica, and subsequently the church. I sang wherever I was permitted singing and I jumped at any opportunity to let my voice be heard as a child; from weddings to funerals and everything in-between. The journey is truly humbling, it’s full of highs and lows, but I embrace every single moment. Knowing where I’m coming from, I only feel immense gratitude for the experiences and for the incredible opportunity to pursue a career in what I was placed on Earth to do,” said Stalk Ashley.
In just a few years of being involved in music Stalk Ashley has racked up a large fan base.
“I’ve been blessed to experience so many high points thus far. I’ve had successful singles that caught the attention of many internationally acclaimed artistes and people whom I look up to personally. I’ve also been blessed to collaborate with many of the main players in my country, my genre, my culture. I’m so grateful and I’m looking forward to experiencing so much more,” she said.
