Laden talks Genuine Love
Producer Sylent brings back passion in dancehall with Unbothered rhythm
Amid the rhythmic beats and fiery verses of Jamaica’s dancehall music Damion “Sylent” Morris of Grab A Vybz Entertainment record label noticed a disquieting absence — a void where the passion for unique sounds once thrived.
“A couple of days before working on the Unbothered rhythm, I was listening to a few of the songs that are out now and felt like the love in dancehall was just gone,” shared the producer.
“Being involved in music for many years, I found myself reflecting on the, somewhat, current stagnant state of dancehall. There seems to be this sameness in almost every rhythm,” he continued.
Driven by a fiery desire to revive the fervour that once defined dancehall, Sylent chatted with his colleagues to see if he was the only one missing that creative flavour.
“So, I hit up my musical brother McMaestro and my artiste Miliflow, they too shared the sentiments,” he said.
“I love the dancehall/reggae genre. It is my roots, so getting creative was easy… I mulled over a couple of artistes who I felt had that authenticity in their delivery and hit them up.”
One such artiste to heed the Grab A Vybz Entertainment producer’s call is O’keefe “Laden” Aarons, whose song on the rhythm, Genuine Love, was released on March 1.
He said fans have been chiming in on social media and in the comments section of the official video released to his VEVO channel.
Laden, who is known for his authentic delivery, says he chose the topic Genuine Love for the song’s lyrics as he felt like the rhythm spoke to him.
“The reason why I choose this topic is because rhythm speaks to me, and it is basically saying love all over. The rhythm has this dancehall-Afrobeat type of vibe. I love the tempo of it. Couples, on a whole, can vibe to it. I get the whole genuine love idea from the beat,” said Laden.
The first release on the Unbothered rhythm, Genuine Love is currently available on all streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon.
