Forbes fifth in weight throw at NCAA Indoor Championships
BOSTON, USA – Marie Forbes of Clemson University braved a torn nail on her left ring finger to place fifth in the women’s weight throw on Thursday’s opening night of the NCAA Division 1 Indoor Championships in Boston.
Former Vere Technical and Cloud Community College standout Forbes, who had a best throw of 21.76m, improved on her sixth place from last year but told Observer Online that she was disappointed with her distance.
While unwrapping a bloody finger after the competition, she insisted that it did not affect her during the competition.
“I just blocked it,” she said, but added that she was hoping to have come closer to her season best 22.20m.
Earlier, her teammate Daniel Cope just missed advancing to the final round as he placed 11th overall, matching his national ranking, with a best of 21.70m – short of his national record 22.75m set earlier this year.
