#InspireInclusion – SHEILA SEGREE-WHITE
SHEILA SEGREE-WHITE, SCOTIABANK VP, HUMAN RESOURCES
Q: What strategies do you employ to #InspireInclusion within your own sphere of influence?
A: As the vice-president, human resources at a leading bank and employer, it is important that I promote inclusion. I feel that it’s important to foster an environment around me where everyone feels valued, regardless of who they are or where they’re from. In the workplace, for example, I see everyone as a part of my team and openly welcome their diverse perspectives and contributions.
Forging positive relationships through listening has been one of the most powerful ways I’ve been able to connect with and inspire people to be their best. We’re all from different backgrounds with diverse views and beliefs and the truth is we can learn so much from each other. Everyone can have a seat at the table if we’re willing to listen.
Q: How are you investing in yourself, and in other women/girls, to accelerate progress and empowerment?
A: I am a continuous learner, always seeking opportunities to invest in personal and professional growth, which includes participating in training and certification programes, and engaging with thought leaders in various fields of interest including evidence-based decision making, personal empowerment, leadership, and wellness.
My personal passion is empowering and developing people towards a success mindset, and I therefore devote much of my time to supporting other women through coaching and mentorship. I have enjoyed empowering my mentees over the years and guiding them toward achieving their personal and professional goals. This sometimes means just offering a listening ear as they talk about their aspirations.
I firmly believe that everyone has their own unique and special gifts to share with the world and with the right support can tap into those gifts, find happiness, and realise their dreams.
For me inclusion isn’t just a goal, it’s a mindset, and by embodying it, we can all create a more equitable world.
