Lawyer accused of knocking out woman’s tooth to return to court April 25
KINGSTON, Jamaica – An attorney-at-law, who allegedly knocked out a woman’s tooth during a dispute at a government agency in downtown Kingston, had her bail extended to April 25 when she appeared before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
The incident reportedly happened at the Registrar’s General Department in February.
Cassandra Brown, the woman who reportedly lost her tooth during the dispute, is claiming compensation for medical bills acquired as a result of the incident.
The lawyer, Nicole Lawrence, who was charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, is also seeking compensation after alleging that her thumb was also badly injured in the fight.
According to court documents, Brown was being seen at the counter by a customer service representative when Lawrence approached hoping to carry out her business.
It is alleged that Brown told Lawrence she hadn’t completed her transaction and an argument developed. Things quickly escalated and Lawrence allegedly threw jabs at Brown.
As a result of the impact, Brown reportedly lost a tooth but not before allegedly biting Lawrence.
Brown was subsequently charged with unlawful wounding.
Lawrence’s attorney who spoke to the media following the case adjournment, insisted his client was not the aggressor.
Senior Parish Judge Paula Blake-Powell set a mention date for April 25th to allow both parties to complete the necessary medical assessments, even as she suggested the two join a dispute resolution programme.
