Haughton’s RxPak flies high on health with drones
HAUGHTON’S Pharmacy is pioneering a new era in delivery services, embracing digital transformation with its latest state-of-the-art drone technology, innovative RxPak mobile app, and user-friendly RxPLUS digital wallet. The new innovative technologies were unveiled on Thursday at the Tropics View Hotel in Hatfield, Manchester.
“We have witnessed your never-ending quest and search for a prescription and medication plan that is easy to understand and family-friendly. That is why we respond to your numerous calls, valued advice, and constant advocacy with our mobile app,” expressed Stafford Haughton, chief pharmacist at Haughton’s Pharmacy Rx, during its launch.
RxPak, a result of professional design based on customer feedback, is now available on both the App Store and
Google Play Store. It encompasses prescription medication management, over-the-counter purchases, and various delivery choices. Additionally, it features a digital wallet, RxPLUS, providing quick and convenient payment options for all pharmacy essentials.
“A large part of our customer demographic consists of retirees and senior citizens who are on repeat doses of various medications, the
RxPaK has been developed with this demographic in mind,” said Francine Haughton, managing director of Haughton’s Pharmacy.
The mobile application has been designed to enhance customer care and medication adherence. Customers can download and subscribe to the app for timely prescription fulfilment. Its built-in features include dosage and prescription refill reminders, with the option to top up their RxPak digital wallet using debit or credit cards. Addressing the needs of Jamaicans in the Diaspora caring for elderly family members in Jamaica, the app allows users to upload prescriptions, specify preferences for items, and choose fulfilment methods like curbside pickup, in store, or its innovative highlight, the drone house call delivery. The drone delivery operates within a nine-kilometre radius of Mandeville. Other delivery options include courier services and bike delivery services. Insurance choices are also available for curbside or in-store pickup.
“The RxPak mobile app will help move Jamaica’s medical system in an efficient, effective, and productive direction,” Stafford added optimistically.
The pharmacy also introduced the RxPak prescription medication management system, housed in a clearly identifiable and accurately labelled physical package. “The plastic squares are sealed with foil and adhesive backing to create a blister pack for easy extraction of the prescribed medication,” Stafford explained.
It was crafted from durable biodegradable paper stock, and it ensures accurate dosage, fostering adherence among RxPak customers. The company received a grant of $4 million from the Development Bank of Jamaica’s (DBJ) Boosting Innovation, Growth, and Entrepreneurship Ecosystems (BIGEE) programme, which it has fully utilised for the RxPak initiative.
“DBJ doesn’t only want to see young companies grow; we also want to see medium-sized companies innovate and transition to much larger enterprises,” highlighted DBJ’s Programme Manager Christopher Brown.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness, speaking in his capacity as minister of economic growth and job creation, encouraged other businesses to apply to the DBJ. He emphasised the need to integrate technology into small businesses for growth, encouraging a path of innovation and sustainability.
