High-powered weapons seized in Flanker
ST JAMES, Jamaica— Police seized two guns in the gritty Flanker community in Montego Bay, St James on Tuesday.
According to head of the St James Police Division, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vernon Ellis, members of the security forces began receiving death threats following last week’s fatal shooting of Peter Johnson, also called Jowlo, during a confrontation in Flanker.

Consequently, on Tuesday morning, members of the security forces carried out a targetted operation at a house connected to Johnson in Flanker.
“The targetted operation by the security forces this (Tuesday) morning was successful in that we recovered an AK-47 mini rifle. We also recovered a camouflage sub-machine gun,” Ellis disclosed.
“This is part of our effort to combatting violent crimes and dismantling criminal gangs in Jamaica,” he added.
The number of illegal guns seized by the St James police since the start of the year has increased to 27. Some 401 assorted ammunition have also been seized over the period.
Last year some 184 illegal firearms and 3, 607 rounds of ammunition were seized by the St James Police.
