Forbes and Williams advance to women’s 60m semis in Glasgow
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Shashalee Forbes and Briana Williams advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 60m on Saturday’s second day of the World Athletics Indoor Championships at the Glasgow Arena in Scotland, after both finished second in their prospective first-round races.
Forbes clocked 7.17 seconds to finish behind Italy’s medal favourite Zaynab Dosso, who won in 7.10 seconds, while Williams was timed in 7.22 seconds in her race that was won by Poland’s Ewa Swoboda, who clocked 7.02 seconds.
St Lucia’s Julien Alfred, who attended St Catherine High also advanced in an impressive 7.02 seconds.
Meanwhile, Jamaica’s male sprint hurdlers Damion Thomas and Tyler Mason both failed to get past the first round of the men’s 60m while Natoya Goule’s 800m quest ended in the semi-finals.
Thomas was sixth in his 60m hurdles heat in 7.73 seconds, missing out on a semi-final spot by one-hundredth of a second while Mason ran 7.86 seconds in his heat.
Goule, who had run her first indoor 80m of the season in Friday’s first round, led for three of the four laps but ran out of gas and finished at the back of the field in 2:01.41 seconds.
