WATCH: Police, soldiers rescue murder suspect from mob in Manchester
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Police and soldiers had to be called in to rescue a man accused of murder from being mobbed in Kasha Town, Albion in Manchester on Friday.
Crime officer for Manchester Deputy Superintendent Dennis Simpson said the man was removed from a house where he had barricaded himself.
“Earlier today there was a stabbing incident in this community where one man succumbed [and] another citizen is accused as the suspect. He was attacked by angry residents. Hence the police were called in and we successfully extracted him a short while ago,” said Simpson.
He said the suspect was injured during the melee and taken to hospital for treatment.
Residents had lit fires and used stones to block sections of the community to prevent the police from removing the accused.
Residents said about midday the accused and a man identified as Jevon Jackson had a dispute when a machete was used to inflict wounds on Jackson.
He was taken to hospital and pronounced dead.
