Getting my three-year-olds ready — Jason DaCosta
Jason DaCosta, trainer of last year’s champion two-year-old Intrestntimesahead, who is yet to make his seasonal debut, says his stream of three-year-olds is preparing well ahead of the upcoming Triple Crown series of races.
Intrestntimeshead, in a performance that demonstrated his talent, easily brushed aside rivals in the one-mile Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes on Tuesday, December 26, 2023.
Ridden by jockey Phillip Parchment, Intrestntimesahead took the contest with a defining burst in the stretch drive by three lengths. Owned by Elizabeth DaCosta, Intrestntimesahead covered the distance in a time of 1:39.2 (24.0 x 46.3 x 1:13.1).
“It is early days, and a lot of the good horses have not come out of the woodwork as yet, and the hope is that
Intrestntimesahead improves and goes on to be a force to be reckoned with in the Classic races this year,” DaCosta told the Jamaica Observer’s Supreme Racing Guide.
“I gave him (Intrestntimesahead) a rest after last season, and we are bringing him on slowly in preparation for the Classics.
So far, everything is going well, and hopefully he continues to improve, and we will see what happens from there,” the two-time champion trainer said.
DaCosta, the son of former many-time champion Wayne, the all-time leading trainer by wins (2,290) and stakes ($1,035,997,710), said his dream is to one day come within shades of his father’s conditioning skills.
“Many more footprints to follow. I mean, that’s my dream — to be nearly as good as him. I just have to continue working and see what happens,” he said.
