Matic energyTina Dimples promotes latest single, Reggae Month
Rising newcomer Tina Dimples says the attention that reggae music gets every February during the celebration of Reggae Month is important for the preservation and promotion of the genre.
“One month to celebrate reggae music is like celebrating a birthday. It doesn’t mean we don’t love, appreciate, or celebrate all year round. Highlighting reggae is important for the culture. A lot of people visit Jamaica during Reggae Month, there are Reggae Month events being held all over, even here in the US. So it does promote the music, even though people release music all year round, because most artistes are always coming out with new material throughout the year,” said Tina Dimples.
The singjay, who is originally from Clarendon, and who presently resides in Philadelphia, has been promoting her latest single
Matic. The song was written by Fanso.
“The song was written primarily for performance on stage shows and for clash-type settings. Fanso wanted to bring out the ‘bad gyal’ side of me, again to show my versatility, because this isn’t the only type of song that I do. It’s not about promoting anything negative, it’s basically to entertain,” said Tina Dimples.
She continued: “I bring versatility to the table, a new style, new energy, and a different type of performance. I can sing, I can deejay, any genre of music including soca, R&B and gospel.”
Even though her journey in music hasn’t been smooth sailing, she is grateful for the experiences which have made her stronger.
“The journey has had its ups and downs, positives and negatives, but it’s all a learning process for more positive things ahead. This has made me more determined to push on and continue on my musical path,” said the artiste.
Tina Dimples was introduced to music by her father, who would often sing to her as a child. She later sang in the church choir.
The artiste has other material to be released over the next few months which she said will showcase her musical diversity.
