WATCH: PNP supporters celebrate as party set to control KSAMC
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Following victory by the People’s National Party’s (PNP) Vivienne Dian Brown-Bond in the Kintyre Division, the party is projected to take control of the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC).
The official count resulted in a 20-20 tie for the KSAMC, but the PNP should control the corporation, having won the popular vote.
Jubilant PNP supporters have begun celebrations at the Electoral Office of Jamaica on Duke Street in downtown Kingston following the announcement.
Brown-Bond won the Kintyre division after polling 1,319 votes to defeat the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Kelvin Keith Clarke, who polled 1,287 votes. The official count for the division ended on Wednesday.
Following the final count for the local government election, the JLP has won seven municipal corporations to the PNP’s six.
