Contract killer in Collymore trial said he was forced to commit murder
KINGSTON, Jamaica – One of the men accused of killing Simone Campbell-Collymore, says he was pressured into committing the act by the ‘don’ for a gang his brother had become involved with.
In his testament on Wednesday, Wade Blackwood told the Court that he was ordered to carry out the hit as a means of clearing his brother’s debt.
Blackwood shared that his brother, an alleged member of the Unruly Gang, was sent to prison on a gun charge and that he was instructed to pick up his brother’s slack.
Blackwood was reportedly offered $2 million to kill Campbell-Collymore. Thirty-six-year-old taxi driver, Winston Walters was also killed during the incident which took place outside Campbell-Collymore’s Foridge Ridge apartment in Red Hills, St Andrew, on January 2, 2018.
Blackwood was one of two men who were reportedly seen spraying bullets into the taxi with the two aboard. He pleaded guilty to the killings and is currently serving two life sentences.
He will be eligible for parole after serving 35 years.
Blackwood, when asked about the murder in court on Wednesday morning said he felt he had no choice but to do as he was instructed.
