A right and a privilege
Dear Editor,
There is a special exhilaration associated with stepping into a polling station and casting a ballot.
Win or lose, one feels a sense of accomplishment in participating in the governance of his/her country.
The excitement is always spontaneous as the various colours come shining through. Everyone, despite differences, presents very jovial and delightful cheer. Both sides of the fence escort the elderly and feeble to “dip dem finga”. Many elderly look forward to the “day out” and meeting old friends.
The process of being sworn in is well managed by the designated staff of the Electoral Commission of Jamaica.
Police presence adds a great deal of security and safety in the process.
Once you have cast your ballot the outcomes are manageable. It is better than griping.
