WATCH: Savanna-la-Mar councillor elect, Julian Chang takes victory lap
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica— People’s National Party (PNP) councillor elect for the Savanna-la-Mar division Julian Chang is now doing a victory lap in her division after creating an upset by unseating incumbent Jamaica Labour Party councillor Lee Simpson.
The motorcade which is now in the community of Russia sees Simpson’s picture plastered onto a casket and being carried in a chariot driven by the Honeghan’s funeral Home, in the parish.
Chang, who lives in the division captured the hearts and votes of the people as they sent her home to victory with a preliminary vote of 1,463 to Simpson’s 1,117.
Chang, a first-time candidate, had to be escorted by the police on Monday as she cast her vote at the Methodist church on Great George Street.
While speaking with Observer Online on Tuesday afternoon, Chang boasted that Savanna-la-Mar will thrive with her leadership.
“Savanna-la-Mar will be a better place,” she promised, sporting a broad smiled.
