‘Ganja Baby’ charged for illegal firearm in St Elizabeth
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica – A man who police spotted with an illegal firearm in Middle Quarters, St Elizabeth on Monday night, has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.
He is 49-year-old Leon Taylor, otherwise called ‘Ganja Baby’ of New Town district in Black River in the parish.
Reports reaching Observer Online are that around 8:00 pm, a police team on mobile patrol in the area observed a man standing beside a white motor vehicle, holding what appeared to be a firearm in his right hand.
As the police approached, the man reportedly ran off. The lawmen gave chase and the man reportedly dropped the firearm in a garbage bin.
He was subsequently held by the police and the garbage bin searched in his presence. A 9mm pistol affixed with a magazine was reportedly found. Taylor and the firearm were taken into custody.
He was transported to the Black River Police Station where he was charged.
No court date was given for the accused.
