More workers than voters in sections of Hanover
HANOVER, Jamaica — There are currently more Election Day and party workers than voters at polling stations across the parish of Hanover.
Returning officers for Hanover Western and Eastern, Alton Lawrence and Hermena Bucknor, respectively, said polling stations opened on time and without incident.
This was confirmed by Observer Online visits to seven polling stations including the Hanover Municipal Corporation building, The Church of Christ building, Rusea’s High School, Esher Primary and Lucea Primary Schools in Hanover Western along with the Elgin Town Basic School in Hanover Eastern.
Hanover Western has four municipal corporation divisions where some 30,476 voters are registered to cast their votes across 97 polling divisions.
In Hanover Eastern, there are 26,000 voters registered to vote across 88 polling divisions. There are three municipal corporation seats in the division.
The Hanover Municipal Corporation was led by the People’s National Party after it took four of the seven municipal corporation divisional seats in the 2016 local government election. This represents a total vote of 28,663 for the PNP and 26,209 for the JLP.
