WATCH: ‘Very confident’ JLP Bellefield candidate Shaneil Dixon casts ballot
MANCHESTER, Jamaica— Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate for the Bellefield Division in Manchester Central Shaneil Dixon says she’s “very confident” that her team’s efforts will deliver victory in Monday’s local government election.
“One of the main reasons is that I am from the division. Also, the people are waiting for the positive change in the Bellefield Division, because they are sick and tired of the poor representation at the parish council level in the Bellefield Division,” she said on Monday at the Bellefield High School.
She boasted about the ruling Government’s tenure.
“Never before have we seen such massive work been done in Manchester Central and Jamaica at large under this Andrew Michael Holness-led Government,” she said.
Dixon, 23, who is among the youngest candidates, said her father switched allegiance from the People’s National Party (PNP) to support her campaign.
“It has helped me in many ways. My father was a PNP activist and now he is 100 per cent supporting his daughter. Of course, he is pulling over some of his comrade friends, because what they are saying on the ground is that they too want to see the positive change in the division,” she said.
“I am from the division. I am living in the division. I am going through the same struggles that the people in my division are going through and I am here to represent them with pride, integrity and honesty. I am very confident that the people of the Bellefield Division will elect their daughter,” added Dixon.
She is contesting the division against the PNP’s Mario Mitchell. In the November 2016 election, Mitchell polled 1,566 over the JLP’s then candidate Ian Hibbert’s 673.
