‘Normal start’ to local elections says CAFFE
KINGSTON, Jamaica— The Citizens Action for Free and Fair Elections (CAFFE) is reporting that the voting process for the local government elections proceeded with no major incident across the island on Monday.
CAFFE stated that 91 per cent of polling stations opened on schedule at 7:00am, and over 99 per cent of all polling stations had the proper materials in place to ensure a smooth voting process.
However, the organisation said that it received reports of seven cases where voters were intimidated but there was no associated violence.
“CAFFE will endeavour to obtain the particulars of these incidents,” the news release said.
The organisation highlighted that there were some difficulties in gaining access to a number of polling stations, however efforts were made to contact the director of elections to resolve the issues.
CAFFE said in spite of these, the issues the local government election has had a normal start based on reports received so far.
