Lucea Mayor says good showing by PNP voters
HANOVER, Jamaica — Mayor of Lucea and candidate for the Cauldwell Division, Sheridan Samuels, has argued that despite low voter turnout across sections of Hanover, supporters of the People’s National Party (PNP) have come out for the polls in his division.
Samuels is convinced that, with their support, the PNP will retain control of the Hanover Municipal Corporation and he will trounce his opponent, Angela Haye of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).
“The supporters for the People’s National Party are coming out very well and I am certain that there won’t be any strong support for the JLP candidate in this division. I am very confident of that,” stated Samuels, who insisted that support for him has surpassed the maximum score on a scale of 1 to 10.
He was speaking with the media after casting his vote at the Cove Primary School on Monday. He expressed his gratitude to Comrades.
“I want to thank them in advance for coming out and supporting the People’s National Party. We have seen where the Jamaica Labour Party has taken this country. It is not governed properly and the level of trickery that is going on within the country itself and the suffering of the people, we are really here to rescue them. And of course, now is the time. The time has come for that,” argued Samuels.
In the 2016 local government election, Samuels received 851 votes, in comparison to the JLP’s Roland Gooden’s 425 votes.
The Hanover Municipal Corporation was last led by the PNP, which won four of the seven municipal corporation divisional seats in the 2016 local government election.
