JLP HQ subdued
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A sound system is playing some of the top dancehall tunes inside the Jamaica Labour Party’s headquarters on Belmont Road in New Kingston, but there is not much of a party taking place as a handful of supporters try to digest the results being released by the Electoral Office of Jamaica on the votes in today’s local government elections.
With the preliminary results indicating that the People’s National Party (PNP) has taken a substantial bite out of the JLP’s control of the island’s municipalities, the JLP supporters on-site at the headquarters are waiting on the leadership of the party including Prime Minister Andrew Holness to signal the way forward.
While there are indications that at least one senior member of the JLP is inside the headquarters building, there is no one outside to speak to Labourities who are reportedly struggling to deal with the implications of today’s vote.
The OBSERVER ONLINE will provide updates from the JLP headquarters as members of its leadership are expected to arrive shortly
