Holy Trinity church, the hotspot for candidates in St James
ST JAMES, Jamaica — At least five candidates in Montego Bay have cast or will cast their ballots at the Holy Trinity Church on Monday.
Candidates vying for the Mount Salem division, the People’s National Party (PNP) Kerry Thomas and his opponent Rena Forbes are among those that have already voted.
Thomas, like most of the other candidates, said the process was smooth.
“Things were moving quite smoothly here, the people are coming in slowly, the process is going exceptionally well,” he told Observer Online.
Forbes shared similar sentiments after her journey inside the polling station.
“It was good; a bit slow but overall it was good,” she remarked.
She said that she is now looking forward to taking her place within the council of the St James Municipal Corporation.
Observer Online also caught up with the PNP’s Gordon Baldie who is seeking to unseat former deputy mayor, Richard Vernon.
He explained that he was pleased at what he saw from both sides on Monday.
“I like the camaraderie between both colours; shows real political maturity,” he said as he arrived at the polling station.
He also had a good impression of his experience casting his ballot.
“The process was very good, seamless, very professional, very friendly,” he stated.
Also casting their ballots during the day were candidates for the Spring Garden Division, Dwight Crawford while Charles Sinclair of the Montego Bay West division also dipped his finger in the ink at the polling station.
