Group of disenchanted young JLP supporters switch to PNP
TRELAWNY, Jamaica — A group of young Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters who converged in the Allsides community on Monday declared that they would be switching their votes to the People’s National Party (PNP) following a falling out with the JLP candidate, Desmond Smith.
The seat is being contested by Smith and the PNP’s Gregory Clarke.
The irate group of former Labourites told members of the media that they all decided to switch allegiance after allegedly being “disrespected” by Smith.
“We stop him and him start to violate us and say he can win without we vote for him or not. You can’t diss young people because we are the future and him diss we,” a young female said.
A young male chimed in: “We tell him fi fix the ball ground and him refuse. The whole a we a Labourite. A switch we switch right now. We a go round a school go put the X beside the head,” he said.
Kevin Barnett, an ardent PNP supporter said he had to provide one of the turncoats with his orange hat, to ensure he was wearing the party’s colour.
Clarke’s campaign manager, Anthony Wilson, was quick to capitalise on the chance to pick up a few more votes.
“We can’t afford to waste this opportunity. I am going to transport them to the polling station right now. Is long time the PNP don’t win this seat,” he said.
