‘We forgave each other’: Pashon Minott pays moving tribute to former flame Peter Morgan
Recording artiste Pashon Minott, the daughter of late reggae icon Sugar Minott, paid a moving tribute to Peter “Peetah” Morgan, the father of her two daughters and lead vocalist of the Grammy-winning reggae ensemble Morgan Heritage.
Morgan passed away on Sunday in the United States at age 46.
In an Instagram post on Monday, Pashon expressed deep sorrow over Morgan’s death, captioning the post as “one of the hardest thing(s) I’ve ever had to write”.

“Peter, you’re one of the most beautiful souls I’ve ever met and although we’ve had our issues of you not being around as a father to our girls, we’ve never stop loving you one day. You helped me to heal from that hurt, because you sat and listened to the pain it had caused us and owned up to your wrongs. We didn’t care about what the world had to say, we knew that we forgave each other for any hurt and was mending our relationship as being parents to our daughters,” she said.
The two share daughters Destiny and Journey Morgan. In the past, Pashon had accused Peetah of being an absentee father to her two girls, but the two had a moving reconciliation.
“You really started trying and that I respect and loved. You told me how proud you were of Destiny and Journey and applauded me for being a great mother when you wasn’t present. Every time I would see you, I would say ‘Waa Gwaan Mi Baby Fadda’ and you would have the brightest smile. Always so jovial. I will always hold dear to my heart our last video call, when you called on Journey’s birthday January 22. You stayed on the phone with us over an hour, which was rare, because yuh nuh like talk suh long pon phone,” Pashon wrote.
Observer Online understands that the singer, who reportedly suffered from diabetes, had experienced a minor stroke a few weeks ago, and had been hospitalised. Concerned family members had been visiting the singer in shifts to help him convalesce before his sudden death on Sunday.
No official cause of Morgan’s death has been given.
Pashon said the conversations with Peetah were deeper and more meaningful than their previous interactions, a change she noted with appreciation.
“The conversations you were having with us was like we’ve never had before, all the advice and suggestions you gave, even regarding my Minott family. You told us you loved us and I replied, ‘Mi Love Yuh Mi Baby Fadda, Love and Love Alone’,” Pashon continued.
The children of the Don’t Haffi Dread singer jetted in to Florida to visit him from all over the world.
“Few weeks later, I’m on a plane rushing to be with the family in one of our hardest time. You asked for all your children and it gives me comfort knowing that WE made that possible. They flew in from different countries just to be with you and I saw how it made you feel. You will forever be in our hearts,” Pashon said.
Peter, along with his siblings Uma Morgan, Roy ‘Gramps’ Morgan, Nakhamyah ‘Lukes’ Morgan and Memmalatel ‘Mr. Mojo’ Morgan formed a powerhouse musical group known to the world as Morgan Heritage. Formed in 1994, Morgan Heritage initially began with eight children of the late reggae artist Denroy Morgan before morphing into the five-member group.
The Grammy-winning group is best-known for songs such as Tell Me How Come, Don’t Haffi Dread (To Be Rasta), Down by the River, and She’s Still Loving Me.
The group won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album with their album Strictly Roots in 2016.
