‘A di better party tell’ – Papine voter casts ballot after allegedly receiving chicken donation from JLP
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A woman from the Papine Division said she casted her vote for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) on Monday after members from the party allegedly bought her three bags of chicken to assist with an upcoming fish fry event.
Still, the woman, who sported a green hat and green blouse, said she is not a die-hearted Labourite as she declared, “a di better party tell.”
“My reason for voting is because Labourite help me. Mi a keep mi fish fry the 28th of this month cuz I want to put on my upstairs and dem buy mi one three bag a chicken and a dem mi a vote fa,” she said, while being questioned about her politicial allegiance.
The woman told reporters that if the Opposition People’s National Party manages to grant her more support for her upcoming event, she has no issues switching sides
“Mi woulda just gone over to PNP, mi nah ask Christ. A the better party tell. So if the PNP come now and buy mi four bag a chicken, a deh so mi thing deh,” she said, highlighting that after the election season, support from politicians is not guaranteed.
“After this yuh nah see back nobody. If you lucky to see them, God on your side. Bigger MP (member of parliament) dan me a switch seats, so who is me?” she questioned. “Anybody a work fi me, a dem mi a work wid.”
The Papine Division is being contested by former PNP member Venesha Phillips. Phillips, now a member of the JLP, is going up against the PNP’s Darrington Ferguson.
